Privacy Policy
Comment Gang is a read-only discovery feed that surfaces top YouTube comments from Indian creators. This page explains what data we collect, what we do with it, and how you can contact us about it.
1. What Comment Gang Is
Comment Gang fetches publicly visible comments from YouTube via the YouTube Data API v3 and presents them ranked by likes. We do not accept user-submitted content, do not run advertisements, and do not require you to create an account to browse the site.
Because all displayed content originates from YouTube's public API, it is also subject to YouTube's Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.
2. Data We Store From YouTube
Our database holds a copy of the following fields retrieved from the YouTube Data API. All of this information is already publicly visible on YouTube:
- Comments — comment text, the commenter's display name, their YouTube channel ID, their public avatar URL, like count, reply count, and the date the comment was posted or last edited on YouTube.
- Videos — video title, YouTube video ID, thumbnail URL, view count, comment count, and publish date.
- Creators (YouTube channels) — channel name, channel ID, subscriber count, category, language, and public description.
We do not collect, store, or process email addresses, phone numbers, or any other personal information belonging to YouTube commenters or creators beyond what is listed above.
3. Data We Collect From You (Site Visitors)
We collect the minimum possible data from people who read this site:
- IP address — used only for rate limiting (preventing abuse). We do not log IP addresses to a database or tie them to browsing history. The rate-limiting check is performed in memory and is not persisted beyond the request window.
- Session cookie — a single
sessionidcookie is set for the admin interface only. If you are a regular visitor, you will not receive this cookie. - CSRF token — a standard Django security token used in any form submission (admin only). Not used for tracking.
We do not:
- Run any analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party scripts.
- Use advertising cookies or share data with ad networks.
- Use localStorage, IndexedDB, or any other client-side storage for tracking purposes.
- Collect your name, email, or any other personal information from you as a visitor.
4. How We Use Data

5. Third-Party Services
The only third-party service we actively call is the YouTube Data API v3 (operated by Google). We use it to fetch public comment and video data on a scheduled basis. No visitor data is sent to Google through our site — any Google requests your browser makes (such as loading creator avatar images hosted on Google's CDN) are governed by Google's own privacy policy.
We may use a CDN (such as Cloudflare) in front of this site for performance and DDoS protection. CDN providers may log HTTP request metadata (IP, URL, timestamp) in accordance with their own policies.
6. Cookies
This site uses no cookies for tracking or analytics. The only cookie set is a server-side session cookie for the password-protected admin area (/admin/). Visiting any public page of Comment Gang will not set any cookie in your browser.
7. Content Removal & Takedown Requests
If you are a YouTube commenter or creator and would like content associated with you removed from Comment Gang, please email us at hello@commentgang.com with:
- The URL of the page on Comment Gang containing the content you want removed, or a description sufficient for us to locate it.
- A brief explanation of why you are requesting removal (e.g. "this is my comment and I want it taken down", "this video has been deleted", etc.).
We will review the request and, if appropriate, hide the content from the site within 7 days. We do not need to see proof of identity for straightforward removal requests, but may ask for clarification if the request is ambiguous.
Note: hiding content on Comment Gang does not delete it from YouTube. For deletion from YouTube itself, please use YouTube's own reporting and removal tools.
8. Data Security
The site is served exclusively over HTTPS. All cookies are set with HttpOnly and Secure flags. Admin access is password-protected and rate-limited. We do not store payment information, passwords, or sensitive personal data.
9. Children's Privacy
Comment Gang does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The site displays publicly available content from YouTube; if you believe any content on YouTube that has been surfaced here involves a child's personal information that should be removed, please contact us.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
